Bitcoin Books

“Bitcoiners experience the moment where it truly clicks, the lighthouse appears and illuminates the fog. An unquenchable thirst arises for learning about new topics one never knew they were interested in. If you weren’t previously concerned with banking, history, the Federal Reserve, inflation, computer science, energy consumption and economics now you are. Those who make it to this point experience the beauty of Bitcoin’s onion-like, multidisciplinary characteristics and the sheer depth of everything that went into creating it, intended or not.” Nick Beaird

In this section you will find useful books about and around the topic of Bitcoin, this includes Economics, Austrian Economic, Philosophy, Agorism, Cryptography, Science and others. I only included books in this list that I have read myself, either complete or in part. I am updating this page on an ongoing base and added my book watchlist at the end.

BITCOIN

Andreas M. Antonopoulos – The Internet of Money (Talks by Andreas M. Antonopoulos)
Saifadean Ammous – The Bitcoin Standard
Gigi – 21 Lessons: What I’ve Learned from Falling Down the Bitcoin Rabbit Hole
Nik Bhatia – Layered Money
Jason A. Williams – Bitcoin: Hard Money You Can’t Fuck With
Knut Svanholm – Bitcoin (Sovereignity Through Mathematic)

BITCOIN PROGRAMMING

Andreas M. Antonopoulos – Mastering Bitcoin: Unlocking Digital Cryptocurrencies
Jimmy Song – Programming Bitcoin: Learn How to Program Bitcoin from Scratch

ECONOMICS & MONEY

Ludwig Mises – Bureaucracy (1944)
Jeff Both – The Price of Tomorrow (Why Deflation if the Key to an Abundant Future)
Joerg Guido Huelsmann – The Ethics of Money Production
Benjamin Graham – The Intelligent Investor (I have included this book, even though Graham, nor any of the individuals that propagate this work, like Warren Buffet, particularly like Bitcoin. I believe it helps to understand the longevity of market movements, which is important in order to understand the gradual but sudden moves of hyperbitcoinization. Modern day value investing must include Bitcoin. Where Bitcoin replaces the role that Graham attributed to Bonds.)

PHILOSOPHY

James Dale Davidson & Lord William Rees-Mogg – The Sovereign Individual
Michael Malice – The Anarchist Handbook (Surprisingly for an anarchist Michael Malice talks very little about Bitcoin, regardless this book is a great collection of anarchist writings).

CRYPTOGRAPHY / TECHNOLOGY

David Kahn – The Codebreakers
Jonathan Bier – The Blocksize War

ENERGY Understanding how energy works, will help you understand the importance of the proof-of-work consensus algorithm and Bitcoin. Few people understand that money is essentially technology and technology is a form of energy, governed by the laws of physics and thermodynamics: the study of the relations between heat, work, temperature, and energy.

Dan Rabinowitz – The Power of Deserts
Hans Rosling – Factfulness
Gretchen Bakke – The Grid

SCIENCE

Stephan Hawking – The Grand Design

Book Watchlist
Nassim Taleb – Antifragile & The Black Swan
Dominic Frisby – Daylight Robbery: How Tax Shaped Our Past and Will Change Our Future
Murray N. Rothbard – A History of Money and Banking in the United States: The Colonial Era to World War II

Mises – Human Action
Walter Block – Defending the Undefendable
Adam Grant – Think Again
Ray Dalio – Principles for Navigating Big Debt Crises
Neal Stephenson – Snow Crash

For another deep dive into Bitcoin related books, I can recommend visiting Gigi’s page “Bitcoin books” – there are a variety of great books in Gigi’s list, however I have not included these, as I did not read them yet.

Thank you for taking the time to read though this piece, if you have any questions, thoughts or advice, please reach out.
